Following last year's event this year we will be holding two events in Birmingham for this year's Heritage open day.
With the help of historic images and plans, alongside the current archaeological and historical research that has been a crucial part of the early phase in preparing it to become the Birmingham’s city centre terminus for the new HS2 route, you can gain a sense of ‘Curzon Street : Then and Now’.
During the day, you’ll be able to learn more about the archaeological processes and see some of the artefacts found nearby. Children can also take part in a small replica archaeological dig.
Did you know that one of the biggest archaeological digs in the UK has been taking place right here in Birmingham? As part of the preparations for HS2 an archaeological team from MOLA Headland has been excavating the Park Street burial ground, close to the city centre. They’ve been discovering new information about life and death in Birmingham during the 19th century. As excavations come to a close, the team are thrilled to be at Eastside City Park to share their findings with you.
While you’re here, children can also take part in a small replica archaeological dig, and learn more about the human body from our experts. Visitors will also be able to handle some of the artefacts found at Park Street.
These are both drop-in events and don't require booking.
