Funding awarded to women’s outreach and support services in Washwood Heath

Today saw more projects awarded funding as part of the HS2 Community and Business Funds.

Anawim Women Working Together have been awarded £73,115 to deliver the ‘Out of the Shadows’ project in the Washwood Heath area. The project aims to support vulnerable women who have been affected by the local HS2 works.

Drawing on over 30 years of expertise in supporting women, Anawim will create a safe drop-in space within an established Women’s Centre where women can come and get help and advice on a number of issues. These include, housing and homelessness, domestic violence, sexual violence and exploitation, monetary and benefit problems, mental health problems, alcohol and substance abuse, and unemployment.

There will also be a mobile support team who will provide an outreach service in multiple areas in great need, such as Washwood Heath, Alum Rock, Nechells and Bordesley.

After women have been engaged with, they will be offered or directed to a number of support services including: - Counselling - Therapeutic interventions - Money and housing advice and support - Peer support - Group activities - Family support - Employability skill - Housing
