HS2's Community Funds award to two new projects in Birmingham

Today saw two more projects awarded funding in Birmingham as part of the HS2 Community and Business Funds.

Ghost Streets CIC have been awarded £8,000 CEF funding for a community engagement and art initiative based on the Digbeth Branch Canal near where the new Curzon Street Station will be.

This historic part of the canal is an under-utilised 'public space,' although the area is being redeveloped and this will increase with HS2’s arrival. The project will celebrate its past and embrace the future, creating a lasting historical record of the area during its transition, enhancing local artist/creative talents by creating new works.

The project will include a series of public events themed around art on the waterways, especially street art and graffiti.

Birmingham Impact Football Club CIC in Ward End have been awarded £7,625 CEF funding for coaching and equipment to help provide a safe environment for local children to learn, develop and enjoy playing football as a community sport.

The club was founded in 2017 and currently runs three outdoor football sessions each week. The CEF funding will provide coaching and equipment and train two volunteer coaches to FA Level 1.

The community and business funds are administered and managed by independent community charity, Groundwork UK. Visit the Groundwork website for further information about Groundwork and the funds themselves.
