Medieval Open Day - find out about HS2's archaeology work

Join us on Sunday 28 July 12pm – 4pm at Weoley Castle Ruins, Alwold Road, Weoley Castle, B29 5RJ to hear more about HS2's archaeology work in Birmingham.

Did you know that one of the biggest archaeological digs in the UK is taking place right here in Birmingham? As part of the preparations for the construction of the new HS2 station in Birmingham, a team of archaeologists is excavating the Park Street burial ground in the city centre.

They’ve been discovering new information about life and death in Birmingham during the 19th century, as well as the Medieval origins of Digbeth, and they will be sharing some of these findings at the Weoley Castle Medieval Open Day.

At this free event, children can take part in a small replica archaeological dig and learn more about the human body from our experts. Visitors will also be able to handle some of the artefacts found during the excavations at Park Street burial ground.

This is a drop-in activity and does not require booking.

To find out more, visit the Birmingham Museums website .

If you'd like to talk to us about our works you can call our freephone helpdesk on 08081 434 434 .
