Work Notifications in your area

In order to reduce the amount of emails that you receive, please find below a number of notifications covering roads within Birmingham that may impact you when travelling around the City.

Upcoming Ground Penetrating Radar Surveys

We will be carrying out Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys in locations along Lawley Middleway, Garrison Lane, Watery Lane Middleway and Great Barr Street from Tuesday 24 August to Friday 3 September excluding weekends. Dates are subject to the progress of the surveys programme.

GPR surveys are non-intrusive, they are completed using a machine which transmits an electromagnetic pulse into the ground. These pulses reflect off features in the ground, allowing us to identify the location and depth of buried utility services.

For more information please see the following notification: https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/notice-of-gpr-surveys-lawley-middleway-and-surrounding-roads/

Upcoming utility surveys

We will be carrying out utility trial hole surveys in locations along sections of Aston Church Road, Warren Road and Chartist Road between Monday 23 August and Thursday 26 August, dates are subject to the progress of the surveys programme.

To complete the utility trial hole inspections, we will use a vacuum excavator, which uses compressed air to loosen or agitate the ground. The loosened material is then removed using the vacuum on the machine creating a hole. At times we will also use hand digging tools to excavate the trial holes. Once the surveys are carried out, we will backfill and reinstate all the trial holes.

These surveys will help us to plan where utility diversions will be required as we prepare to construct the railway in Birmingham.

Overnight road closure and temporary traffic lights

To be able to carry out these inspections safely and effectively, we will need to put in place temporary traffic lights on sections of Aston Church Road, Chartist Road and Warren Road on 23 and 24 August.

We will also need to put in place an overnight road closure with a diversion route along a section of Aston Church Road on 25 and 26 August.

The temporary lights will be operational from 9.30am to 3.30pm. The road closure with diversion route will be operational from 9:00pm to 5:00am. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.
